We at Indy Competition Services take this time to wish each and every one a happy, healthy Thanskgiving holiday celebration!

Lotus Cars ushered in the rear engine revolution in Indy car racing in 1963. Soon UK constructors Brabham and Lola followed right behind. But there were American car builders who quickly picked up inspiration from these UK competitors. A.J. Watson, Ted Halibrand and Fred Gerhardt were among them.
Based on the Lotus 29, Fred Gerhardt built his first Indy cars in 1965. This car was 1 of 3 Gerhardt’s built for the 1965 season. It was originally purchased by Ernie Ruiz and was the Travelon Trailer Special. This car made its debut in the 1965 Indianapolis 500 with Ronnie Duman at the wheel. Duman qualified 25th and finished 22nd. See more here: 1965 Gerhardt.
